The pair snuck out of their home to attend Wacken Open Air
Two elderly men snuck out from their nursing home on Friday (August 3) to attend a German metal festival, according to reports.
Wacken Open Air, which takes place in the northern German town of Wacken, took place this weekend (August 2-4). The festival has been described as the “biggest heavy metal festival in the world.”
Deutsche Welle reports that nursing home staff contacted the police after they noticed the two men were missing from the centre. They were found at the festival at 3am in a state that a police spokesperson called “disoriented and dazed.”
The men were apparently reluctant to leave the festival but were escorted home by police with the help of a taxi and patrol car.
Speaking to broadcaster Norddeutscher Rundfunk, a police spokesperson said: “They obviously liked the metal festival. The care home quickly organised a return transport after police picked them up.”
Earlier this year, Judas Priest guitarist Glenn Tipton announced that he was to quit touring with the band after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. He has been replaced in the band’s live setup by Andy Sneap.
