21 Savage’s manager says rapper’s team asked ‘several artists’ to show solidarity at Grammys

21 Savage’s manager has spoken out about the lack of recognition shown to the rapper by other artists at the Grammys last night (February 10).

The star is currently being detained by ICE for violating the terms of his non-immigrant visa. Savage, who was born in the UK, has been living in Atlanta since 2006.

One of the big criticisms of the awards show was that only one person mentioned the rapper while on stage. Ludwig Göransson, a collaborator of Childish Gambino, said while collecting the award for Record Of The Year on Donald Glover’s behalf: “21 Savage, you should be here.”

Post Malone, who performed the 21 Savage-featuring track ‘Rockstar’, did not mention the rapper but was pictured backstage wearing a shirt with his name on. His manager Kei Henderson has now commented on the situation.

Someone from Epic sent me the photo of Post wearing the Savage tee before he performed. I appreciate the notion. Lord knows me, Meezy and our team attempted to solidify recognition for Savage during the performance of “Rockstar,” it just didn’t work out that way.

“Someone from Epic sent me the photo of Post wearing the Savage tee before he performed,” she wrote on Twitter. “I appreciate the notion. Lord knows me, Meezy [co-manager Justin Williams] and our team attempted to solidify recognition for Savage during the performance of “Rockstar”, it just didn’t work out that way.”

We reached out to several artists to perform Savage’s verse and/or stand in solidarity on stage on his behalf.

Henderson continued: “We reached out to several artists to perform Savage’s verse and/or stand in solidarity on stage on his behalf.”

I’m allowed to have an emotional moment. Savage works hard. We work hard. He deserves better.

Earlier in the night, she thanked Göransson for mentioning the rapper in his speech and commented on how “amazing” Savage would have looked on stage. “I’m allowed to have an emotional moment,” she said. “Savage works hard. We work hard. He deserves better.”

More details of the star’s arrest emerged last week, with police claiming the rapper was in possession of a loaded gun when he was detained. Legal representatives for Savage have said the gun did not belong to him.
